<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare a strain in which genetic information except genes associated with glucose assimilating ability is obviously the same as that of H16 strain being a wild strain, namely a glucose assimilating strain derived from a C. necator (Cupriavidus necator) H16 strain provided with glucose assimilating ability by a specific operation, and to provide a method for efficiently producing PHA (polyhydroxyalkanoic acid) by using glucose as a carbon source by the strain. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A gene encoding glucose transporter protein of Zymomonas mobilis is transferred to C. necator H16 strain, thereby glucose can be taken in, as the result, C. necator H16 strain is provided with glucose assimilating ability.
