PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reliably reduce speckle noise with a simple configuration and a simple control. SOLUTION: An image display apparatus includes: a light source 10 which emits laser light; a scanning means 30 which scans the laser light emitted from the light source 10 toward a surface 50 to be projected; and an optical path varying means 40 which is arranged on the optical path between the light source 10 and the scanning means 30 and varies the optical path of the laser light emitted from the light source 10 by a small distance as time elapses.
