<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control device capable of inhibiting the sulfur poisoning of a NO<SB>X</SB>catalyst by a simple device constitution. <P>SOLUTION: This exhaust emission control device includes the NO<SB>X</SB>catalyst for removing NO<SB>X</SB>in exhaust gas discharged from an internal combustion engine, and a particulate matter filter disposed upstream of the NO<SB>X</SB>catalyst and collecting particulate matter in the exhaust gas.
