PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a seal material and a sealing method, which enable a gap between members to be properly sealed with a great adhesive force, and which enable proper sealing performance to be maintained even if the gap between the members is changed. SOLUTION: The seal material is arranged between the first and second members which face each other in such a manner as to form the slit-like gap between themselves, and used to seal a fluid which acts through the gap. The seal material 51, which is formed of a flexible material in an approximate C-shape, comprises a flat plate portion 52, rising portions 53 and 54 which are provided at both the width ends of the flat plate portion, respectively, and right and left claw portions 56 and 55 which are formed in such a shape as to get close to each other from the edges of the rising portions. The approximately C-shaped seal material 51 can be changed into an approximate U-shape by inverting inside out, and arranged in the gap, and the inverted seal material 51 is pressure-bonded to the first and second members by a restoring force, so as to seal the gap.
