The airbag module (1) has a gas generator (4) surrounded by a casing (5), which is air permeable in sections and provided with a diaphragm for preventing intrusion of fluid. A module housing (2) and an airbag are provided in the module. The casing is manufactured from polyester, polyamide or PTFE. The casing is glued in a watertight manner for forming a closed volume. The casing surrounds a diffuser (3) in a water tight manner, and another casing (6) completely surrounds the airbag in a watertight manner. The diffuser is enclosed by a textile material. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing an airbag module.
