<p>A method is disclosed for manufacturing a ceramic article that includes mixing at least one ceramic precursor inorganic ingredient, and at least one binder to form a plasticized mixture, wherein the binder includes a proteinous material. The mixture is extruded to form a green body. The green body can be heated to form the ceramic article.</p>
