The device (6) has an air inlet throat for inletting air into an engine (4). A main air inlet (10) is arranged in the throat, and a valve (22) closes the main air inlet. A float (24) detects a water level at the exterior of a vehicle, and mechanically actuates the valve. A secondary air inlet (28) is closed, when the main air inlet is opened and vice versa. The float is provided at a height that is lower than the height of the valve. The valve is connected to the float by a connecting rod (26). An independent claim is also included for a vehicle comprising an engine.
