The device has a spacer (44) integrated to a functional piece i.e. cylinder (40), and comprising a barrel for passing a spacer fixing screw. The spacer is pre-maintained between lower and upper tabs (26, 28) e.g. metal flaps, of a body part i.e. fixation support (20), by gravity. A position unit has a notch and a tongue for positioning the spacer at the tabs, such that the barrel of the spacer projects with respect to holes (34) of the tabs for freely inserting the screw in the holes of the tabs and the barrel, during fixation of the spacer between the tabs. An independent claim is also included for a method for fixing a spacer of a functional piece to a part of a body structure of a vehicle i.e. motor vehicle.
