PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the operability of microscope observation by keeping the time required to change observation magnification within a certain range. SOLUTION: The current position X and the drive direction D of a zoom lens are obtained and a speed LUT 100 where drive speeds matching different positions and drive directions are registered in advance is referred to for calculating a corresponding drive speed V. The drive speeds in the speed LUT 100 are set according to different amounts of drive determined by different positions and drive directions, and the greater the amount of drive gets, the greater the drive speed becomes.
