PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video display apparatus for displaying HDMI (high definition multimedia interface) apparatuses as external input in a list. SOLUTION: A television 1 is provided with: a broadcast receiving section 13, a signal processing section 14, a control section 15, a display section 16, an operating section 18 and an HDMI transmission/reception section 2. The HDMI transmission/reception section 2 performs transmission and reception to/from a DVD recorder 101 to obtain various information of the recorder 101. Upon receiving a request of channel switching to an apparatus connected to the external HDMI, the control section 15 executes external input OSD processing 157 stored in a ROM in the control section 15. In this case, the HDMI transmission/reception section 2 performs communications with the DVD recorder 101 to receive a vender ID and a logical address, and uses a table 158 to convert the vender ID into a character string of a manufacturer. Further, the logical address is converted into a character string indicating the type of apparatus. The above operation is repeated for each of connected apparatuses, and an OSD synthesizing section 143 outputs a list of character strings. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
