<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separation device efficiently generating a swirling flow in a separation tank in spite of the simple structure, and allowing a feed pipe of liquid like wastewater to connect, in a vertical direction, to a peripheral wall of the separation tank. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The separation device 1 separating solid matter contained in flow-in liquid is provided with the separation tank 2, a partition plate 5 vertically partitioning the inside of the tank 2 into an in-flow chamber 3 and an out-flow chamber 4 and provided with a plate-like screen 8, a feed part 6 formed in the in-flow chamber 3, and a discharge part 7 formed in the out-flow chamber 4. The partition plate 5 is tiltedly disposed in relation to the flow-in direction of liquid horizontally flowing in from the feed part 6, the tilted angle being set to generate a horizontal swirling flow to the flow-in liquid.
