A floating-disk type brake system includes floating disk assemblies placed respectively in spaces between a rotating member, such as a wheel of a transportation machine or a rotating shaft of a machine tool, and a stationary member. Differences in rotating speed between the adjacent ones of the sliding surfaces of the floating disk assemblies in frictional sliding engagement are reduced. the floating-disk type brake system includes a first floating disk assembly 50 and a first disk assembly 60 are arranged between the ring gear 35 and the planet carrier 32 of a planetary gear built in a transmission or the like. The first floating disk assembly 50 and the first disk assembly 50 are pressed together into frictional engagement to brake a rotating shaft 23.
