A method includes scanning (302) an asset label (108) on an asset (105), using a scanner (110), to determine an asset identifier. The method also includes determining (304) a current location of the scanner. The method also includes storing (306) an asset location record including the current location of the scanner. A scanner (110) includes a barcode reader or a radio frequency identification (RFID) scanner, configured to receive an asset identifier by scanning an asset label (108) of an asset (105). The scanner also includes a locator (112) configured to determine a current location of the scanner.
