The tool has a tool chuck (10) with an identification element (12) accommodated in a torque-proof manner and connected with a tool spindle (14). A tool identification device (16) detects the tool chuck by the identification element, and has a writing and/or reading unit (18) provided to read information from the identification element and/or to write in the identification element. The tool identification device is connected with a base (20) in a partially fixed manner, and has a connecting unit (22) intended to interconnect the tool identification device and a computer unit (24). An independent claim is also included for a method for detecting a tool chuck.
