DATA RECORDING EVALUATING METHOD AND OPTICAL DISK RECORDING AND REPRODUCING DEVICE

A novel evaluation index is introduced so as to evaluate data recording both comprehensively and with respect to individual detection patterns. A data recording evaluating method comprises a step of reproducing the result of data recording into an optical disk and identifying a predetermined detection pattern of a reproduced signal, a step of detecting the signal state of the reproduced signal corresponding to the predetermined detection pattern, and a first calculation step of calculating a first recording state evaluation index value based on the detected signal state and a reference state identified from the predetermined detection pattern and adjusted reflecting the signal state of the reproduced signal. The method also comprises a second calculation step of calculating a second recording state evaluation index value using the first recording state evaluation index value relating to each predetermined detection pattern when there is a plurality of predetermined detection patterns. Using the first and second recording state evaluation index values, data recording can be evaluated properly.
