<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new biopolymer originating in natural material and a method for producing the biopolymer. <P>SOLUTION: The biopolymer originating in Eucommia ulmoides is obtained by a step of biologically decaying E. ulmoides to give a degradation product of E. ulmoides, and a step of washing the degradation product of E. ulmoides. The biopolymer obtained by such a convenient method contains trans-isoprenoids as the major component and has a relatively high molecular weight.
