<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily providing a polished surface with high sphericity on the surface of an optical element. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This spherical surface polishing device polishes the surface of the optical element in a spherical surface shape by sliding the surface of the optical element on a spherical surface polishing disk. The polishing device comprises a polishing shaft for supporting the optical element in an abutting state on the spherical surface polishing disk; a rotating drive part having an axis extending through the curvature center of a polishing target spherical surface on the surface of the optical element and rotating the polishing shaft; and a supporting mechanism installed between the rotating drive part and the polishing shaft, having a spherical or cylindrical curved surface having a center at the curvature center of the polishing target spherical surface, so tilting and supporting the polishing shaft that the axis or the extension of the axis always extends through the curvature center by shifting the polishing shaft along the curved surface, and moving the optical element supported on the polishing shaft along the polishing target spherical surface when the polishing shaft is rotated.
