<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a "character input system, character input device and character input method" for enabling a user of a handwritten input authentication device to perform processing from handwritten character input to determination without watching a screen carefully under an environment unsuitable to careful watching. <P>SOLUTION: A device body 10 outputs a candidate character extracted on the basis of handwritten input information to an output device 30 when the handwritten input information entered in a handwritten input reception area 22 on an input device 20 is a character or a portion of the character, and at the same time, determines a determination character among candidate characters on the basis of a selection sign and outputs the determination character to the output device 30 when the handwritten input information is a selection sign for selecting a candidate character.
