<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a welding control method of gas shielded arc welding and a weld monitoring apparatus used for the method. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The welding control method of gas shielded arc welding controlls the welding conditions based on a welding state photographed by a video camera. The video camera takes a picture of the welding state at a position which is in front of a welding direction and which has an angle of 25-60° formed by a molten pool and the photographing direction of the video camera. The video camera includes a far-infrared bandpass filter which transmits a region of light having the center of wavelength of 950-970 nm and a half bandwidth ≤20 nm, and having a maximum transmissivity ≥40%.
