PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an actuator for a valve capable of controlling rotation by detecting the occurrence of an overload and the rotational direction of the valve in cutoff by a simple internal mechanism, in the actuator for protecting the internal mechanism by mechanically cutting off the transmission of motive power by a torque limiter in the overload while exhibiting compactness. SOLUTION: In this actuator for the valve, the torque limiter 7 is arranged on an intermediate shaft 6 of a gear speed reduction mechanism 4, and this torque limiter 7 has a clutch part 15 for transmitting rotation from a motor 1 to the output shaft 5 side at ordinary time and cutting off the connection with this output shaft 5 when the overload is caused in the output shaft 5, and a cam part 17 for operating control switches 36 and 37 arranged on the rotation side by rotating in the rotational direction of this clutch part 15 by interlocking with the clutch part 15 when the overload is caused.
