A power unit for a vehicle, provided with an internal combustion engine and a belt type stepless transmission and mounted on the vehicle such that a crankshaft is oriented in the lateral direction of the vehicle, wherein the stepless transmission is effectively cooled by an air guide structure which can be produced with reduced weight, size, and cost. A transmission case (63) for housing the stepless transmission (23) is constructed from an inner transmission case (63A) mounted integrally with or as a separate body on a crankcase (25) and covering the stepless transmission (23) from the inside in the vehicle's lateral direction, an outer transmission case (63B) for covering the stepless transmission (23) from the outside in the vehicle's lateral direction, an air guide plate (72) mounted to the outside, in the vehicle's lateral direction, of the stepless transmission (23) and partitioning the inside of the transmission case (63) into a transmission chamber (73) and an air guide chamber (74), a first air path (115) formed in the outer transmission case (63B) and leading outside air to the air guide chamber (74), and a second air path (116) formed at the air guide plate (72) and guiding air in the air guide chamber (74) to the transmission chamber (73). |
