The system has a memory (20) e.g. hard disk drive, attached to a control unit (10). A change over switch (40) switches a data bus, and is connected with the control unit by a transmission cable (51) and a control line (52), while the switch and control unit are attached to another memory (30) and/or computer (60) by another two transmission cables (53, 54). Data duplication between the memories during an independent operating condition of the system and data exchange between the memory (30) and computer are made after connection of the system to the computer by the switch. The transmission cable is designed as a universal serial bus (USB)interface, External Serial Advanced Technology Attachmentinterface, or Serial Attached Small Computer System Interface. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling data transmission.
