<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a failure detection method of a transmission which can suppress processing for coping with a failure to a necessary minimum extent, and can enhance productivity by grasping a failed position adequately, and its apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: A operation part receives an input of the pressure of an oil-liquid output part 5 detected by first to eleventh sensors 6a-6k at each range, calculates a pressure value corresponding to the range and the oil-liquid output part, compares the pressure value corresponding to the range and the oil-liquid output part with pressure data for comparison stored in a memory, and obtains an error pattern corresponding to the range and the oil-liquid output part. Furthermore, the operation part compares the valve pattern for comparison with the error pattern corresponding to the range and the oil-liquid output part, and determines that there is an error in a valve position including the valve pattern for comparison corresponding to the error pattern corresponding to the range and the oil-liquid output part.
