<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surgical instrument for performing an end-to-end anastomosis of first and second luminal structures. <P>SOLUTION: This surgical instrument (10) for performing the end-to-end anastomosis of the first and second luminal structures includes a housing (26) having an actuator (20) attached thereto and a selectively removable loading unit (100) attached to a distal end of the housing (which supports any array of surgical fasteners (260) at a distal end thereof). The surgical fasteners are simultaneously deformable upon activation of the actuator such that a distal end (269) of each surgical fastener secures each end of each luminal structure to complete the end-to-end anastomosis wherein the resulting eversion is exterior to the luminal structures. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
