<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control system of an internal combustion engine, supercharging intake air by utilizing energy of exhaust gas, the system which prevents an unnecessary increase of an intake air amount when reducing an air-fuel ratio of gas discharged from the internal combustion engine. <P>SOLUTION: In the exhaust emission control system of the internal combustion engine including a supercharger in which the intake air is supercharged by utilizing the energy of the exhaust gas, when a treatment (rich treatment) for reducing the air-fuel ratio of the gas discharged from the internal combustion engine to a target rich air-fuel ratio equal to or smaller than a theoretical air-fuel ratio, is performed, an increase of the exhaust gas energy converted to kinetic energy of the centrifugal supercharger is prevented by retarding a valve opening timing of an exhaust valve. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
