<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To separate a plurality of stacked sheets without depending on man-hours. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A paper separating device has an air supply nozzle 62 for blowing air from a mount table 30 side against a plurality of papers mounted on the mount table 30. The plurality of the stacked sheets are mounted on the mount table 30 to abut on only one of a pair of hold-down members 10a and 10b. The air supply nozzle 62 weakens an air blowing force in a region extending between a predetermined position in a region not opposed to the plurality of sheets in a mounted state on the mount table 30, and the hold-down member 10a on which a plurality of sheets of paper do not abut than other regions so that the plurality of the stacked sheets abut on only the hold-down member 10b.
