<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display element which has a simple configuration, which can be driven with a low voltage, and which has a high display contrast and high white display reflectance, and hardly causes fluctuation of the reflectance in repeated driving. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The display element contains metal salt which reversibly melts/deposits by electrochemical oxidation/reduction reaction, an electrolyte and a white dispersion material between counter electrodes. When driving the counter electrodes, the display element substantially performs black display and white display.
