<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a length adjusting device for adjusting the length of a wire without giving any torsion to the wire. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The length adjusting device 70 of a wire 32 which is connected to a detent plate 42 to give the operational stroke to the detent plate 42 by the traction has a supporting shaft 38 for turnably supporting the detent plate 42, and a lever base member 17 for supporting the supporting shaft 38 in a parallel movable manner in the same direction as the traction direction of the wire 32. A shift lever device has a discoid cam member 76 to be interlocked with the turn of the supporting shaft 38 with the supporting shaft 38 being provided in an offset manner, and both guide plate parts 72 of the lever base member 17 provided on the lever base member 17 to movably guide the cam member 76 in the direction across the moving direction of the supporting shaft 38.
