PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing an organic electroluminescent element, in which a defect of the electroluminescent element can be prevented for a long period by providing a layer which absorbs oxygen or water which are causes of deterioration of the organic electroluminescent element so that they may not exert an adverse effect. SOLUTION: The organic electroluminescent element is provided with a substrate 11, a first electrode 12 on the substrate 11, an organic light-emitting medium layer 13 including an organic light-emitting layer on the first electrode 12, a second electrode 14 facing the first electrode 12 with the organic light-emitting medium layer 13 in-between, and a passivation layer 16 on the second electrode 14.
