摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve dynamic range compression processing of an image with reduced calculation amount as compared with prior art while maintaining an image quality equivalent to that of a scene perceived with the naked eye. <P>SOLUTION: Based on the intensity of each pixel constituting an image representing image data, the image is divided into a plurality of exclusive regions which respectively equalize the intensity correction values in the regions when the dynamic range of the image is compressed, thus creating region luminance data representing the intensity correction value and the location of a region to which that value is applied. Subsequently, a Laplacian pyramid of N (N is an integer of 2 or more) levels is created from the image data, and a Gaussian pyramid is created from the region luminance data. A new Laplacian pyramid is created by weighting the pixels in each level of the Laplacian pyramid by the same pixel of the same level in the Gaussian pyramid, and the image data is restored from that Laplacian pyramid. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
