PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a biaxially oriented polyester film for a molding member which has high elongation, facilitates thermal molding into a form as a target, is excellent in appearance even when a metal thin film is disposed and, further, can be preferably used as a surface protective film of a decoration film because the appearance of a molding can be beautifully retained when being used as the surface protective film upon the molding of a decoration sheet for molding. SOLUTION: The biaxially oriented polyester film for the molding member is a two or more layers of polyester film and has a layer containing divinylbenzene-styrene cross-linked particles prepared by copolymerizing organic compounds on at least one side outermost surface of the polyester film, wherein an increment of the ratio of film haze (H) to the thickness (d) after elongating the polyester film respectively 1.4 times in the film longitudinal direction and in the film width direction at 200°C is 0.01 to 0.2%/μm, and stresses upon 100% elongation (F100 value, unit:MPa) in the film longitudinal direction and in the film width direction at 200°C satisfy the following relation (1): 15≤F100<SB>MD</SB>+F100<SB>TD</SB>≤80 (wherein, F100<SB>MD</SB>presents a stress upon 100% elongation in the film longitudinal direction and F100<SB>TD</SB>presents a stress upon 100% elongation in the film width direction).
