PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical film manufactured by a solution casting film forming method, increased in tear strength in a feed direction (MD direction) by highly stretching a wide film in a lateral direction (TD direction), improved in the exfoliability of the film at the time of reworking a polarization plate equipped with the optical film, suppressing rupture in a specific direction, suppressing curling of the polarization plate, suppressing rupture at the time of reworking and capable of satisfying requirement of increase of film width and high quality of the film in recent years, and a polarization plate. SOLUTION: The optical film has the ratio of the tear strength in the film feed direction (MD direction) and the tear strength in the film width lateral direction (TD direction), i.e., (MD tear strength/TD tear strength) of 1.1-2.0, preferably 1.5-2.0. The stretching ratio of a web in a stretching process is preferably 20-60%. Further, the sum of the shrinkage factor in the MD direction and the shrinkage factor in the TD direction in all the manufacturing processes of the film is preferably 15-50%.
