PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separator for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery which achieves the nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery having excellent load characteristics and is superior in dimensional stability at a high temperature, and to provide the nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery containing the same and having excellent safety and load characteristics. SOLUTION: The separator for the nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery is made by laminating a porous film of a water-soluble polymer and a porous film of polyolefin. In the separator for the nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery, the porous film of the water-soluble polymer contains fine particles, the water-soluble polymer is one or more materials selected from a group consisting of cellulose ether, polyvinyl alcohol and sodium alginate, or is carboxyl methyl cellulose.
