PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To safely stop and control elevator operation when there is abnormality by easily and correctly detecting abnormality of the torque of a hoisting machine. SOLUTION: When a car 8 is operated, a torque command value applied to a motor 5 is detected by a torque command detection section 12, and also a variation in the torque command value is detected by a torque command variation detection section 13. In an abnormal time measurement section 15, time when the variation in the torque command value exceeds a threshold set by an abnormal detection threshold setting section 14 is counted. In a torque abnormality determination section 15a, it is determined that there is abnormality of the torque when the counted time exceeds predetermined determination time, thereby stopping operation of the car 8.
