A device for preventing closing of a sliding door can hold at a desired opening position a sliding door having an automatic door closing device. The device for preventing closing of a sliding door has a support body (52) pivotable about a pivot shaft (50) located adjacent to a rotating body (38) rotating in the normal and reverse directions as the sliding door (20) is opened and closed, an engaging and displacing member (56) supported in a displaceable manner by the support body (52), and a displacement preventing member (60) for preventing, by a predetermined elastic force, displacement of the engaging and displacing member and the support body which are displaced by the rotating body (38) rotated by door closing operation.
