PURPOSE: A method for manufacturing a β-hydroxy-γ-butyrolactone is provided to easily produce a β-hydroxy-γ-butyrolactone (4-hydroxy-dihydropurane-2-one) of valuable to use. CONSTITUTION: A method for manufacturing a β-hydroxy-γ-butyrolactone comprises a step of reducing tetronic acid. The tetronic acid is denoted by the chemical formula 1. The β-hydroxy-γ-butyrolactone is denoted by the chemical formula 2. Hydroxide is used as a reductase.
