<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus for performing medium conveyance by accurately detecting the presence of the medium. <P>SOLUTION: A composite apparatus 1 compares, in paper conveyance, a detection signal of a sensor such as a resist sensor 261 with a threshold stored in a memory such as NVRAM to determine the presence of paper. The apparatus further recalculates the threshold from a detection signal of the sensor when paper does not pass therethrough and that when paper passes therethrough to update the threshold of the memory, and uses the threshold after the updating of the memory for detection of the next paper.
