PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a navigation system for guiding a pedestrian to a destination. SOLUTION: In this system, a visitor 100 carries a portable terminal 2 for performing electric field communications, and a communication electrode 31 of a transmission device 4 for transmitting position information by electric field communications is disposed at each guidance point. This allows the visitor 100 to know a current position and a guidance point to go next only by arriving at a guidance point and contacting the communication electrode 31. Further, communication electrodes 32A, 32B, 32C, 32D are arranged around the communication electrode 31 and connected with the transmission device 4 for transmitting direction information to them, and thereby identifying the direction from which the visitor 100 has come or to which the visitor is going, and displaying on the portable terminal 2 a floor map in which the direction where the visitor 100 is going is up.
