PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform a suitable hybrid AF (Auto Focus) corresponding to the direction of a contrast difference possessed by a specific object such as a face. SOLUTION: The image device comprises an object detection means 20 for detecting a specific object from an image formed using an image sensor 10 and a control means 32 for performing second focus control for the specific object based on a contrast detection method after performing first focus control for the specific object based on a phase difference detection method. The control means establishes a phase difference detection direction according to the direction of the specific object, and performs the first focus control based on the phase difference detected in the phase difference detection direction.
