<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a welding inspection system for shortening the period required for inspection. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The welding inspection system changes the direction of emission, and determines the propriety of the state of a nugget of a welding section based on the waveform of the level of reflected ultrasonic wave. A method of changing the emitting direction of the ultrasonic wave is divided into two stages of rocking operations. The one operation is a search rocking operation (S21-S24) of sequentially varying it in the small amount direction about a predetermined direction. Based on the level of the reflected wave detected during this operation, the direction close to the emitting direction suitable for the inspection is determined as a center emitting direction (S22). The other operation is a determination rocking operation (S26-S30) of sequentially varying it in the large amount direction about the center emitting direction. The search rocking operation is about the center emitting direction, so that the state of the nugget is determined rapidly.
