The method involves recording a real image (RB) by a camera (3), and assigning a rotation angle (alpha) of the camera to the real image. A virtual image component is selected and/or aligned depending upon the rotation angle. The selected and/or aligned image component is combined with a part of the real image to an augmented reality image (ARB). Another rotation angle (beta) that is orthogonal to the former rotational angle is assigned to the real image. A distance between a camera and an object to be recorded by the camera is measured. An independent claim is also included for a device for producing an augmented reality image.
