<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a topical formulation having remarkable effect, in a topical antiviral composition comprising acyclovir, penciclovir and/or omaciclovir, being drugs for treatment of viral infections. <P>SOLUTION: A water in an oil type or oil in water type topical antiviral composition comprising acyclovir, penciclovir and/or omaciclovir, in a glucocorticoid-free pharmaceutical carrier containing 15-25 weight% propylene glycol and 10-25 weight% isopropyl 12-22C alkanoic ester, is provided. The compositions have utility in the treatment or prophylaxis of herpesvirus infections. Clinical results demonstrate that treatment commencing at the prodromal stage can prevent the development of a typical lip herpes in a large proportion of patients. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
