PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid jetting apparatus which decreases its cost by decreasing the amount of consumption of a liquid, and a method for cleaning a liquid jetting head. SOLUTION: The liquid jetting apparatus is equipped with: a device body equipped with a liquid jetting heads 10A-10F equipped with a plurality of nozzle openings, pressure generating rooms communicating with respective nozzle openings, and pressure generating means generating pressure changes in the pressure generating rooms to jet the liquid from the nozzle openings, and a conveying means 7 on which the liquid jetting heads 10A-10F are fixed and which conveys a medium S1 to be jetted to the liquid jetting heads 10A-10F; and a controlling part for applying a driving signal to the pressure generating means. The controlling part is equipped with a preliminary delivery controlling means which makes the pressure generating means corresponding to the nozzle openings opposing the jetting region of the medium to be jetted perform a preliminary delivering operation, and makes at least a part of the pressure generating means corresponding to the nozzle openings opposing a non-jetting region of the medium to be jetted perform a decreased preliminary delivering operation with the amount of jetting of the liquid less than the preliminary delivering operation.
