<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress an increase in the temperature ripple of a fixing roller, thereby suppressing nonuniform fixing. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Before the temperature of a fixing medium falls, the image forming apparatus prevents the temperature ripple by increasing an energizing time to a heater 10 which heats the image forming apparatus. In this apparatus, an engine control circuit 17 calculates an amount of heat taken by the fixing medium (transfer paper and toner), and the energizing time to the heater 10 is set on the basis of the calculated amount of heat. At the time, from the type of transfer paper, the time to pass through the fixing roller, the amount of toner to be fixed to the transfer paper, or an environmental temperature, the engine control circuit 17 calculates the amount of heat taken by the fixing medium.
