A foil cutter (1) has a box-shaped elongated housing (2), in which a foil roll is rotatably positioned. A separating/cutting device separates the foil into required lengths when pulled out from the housing. The cutting/separating device is formed by a resistance wire extending over the width of the foil and is briefly electrically heatable for separating the foil piece drawn out from the housing.
