<p>A honeycomb structure that realizes relaxation of thermal stress by an adhesive layer to thereby attain prevention of any cracking or damaging of the honeycomb structure, and that realizes suppression of a temperature distribution between a central portion and peripheral portion of the honeycomb structure to thereby attain avoiding of unburnt residue of particulate matter. There is disclosed a honeycomb structure consisting of a ceramic block having multiple columnar honeycomb fired bodies bound via an adhesive layer. The honeycomb fired bodies each have a cross-sectional area of 900 to 2500 mm2, and the ceramic block has a cross-sectional area of 10,000 to 55,000 mm2. In the cross section of the honeycomb structure, the number of adhesive layers present on a line through the honeycomb fired bodies extending from the center of gravity of the ceramic block to the outer border of the ceramic block is two or less when the cross-sectional area of the ceramic block is from 10,000 mm2 to less than 25,000 mm2, three or less when the cross-sectional area of the ceramic block is from 25,000 mm2 to less than 40,000 mm2, and four or less when the cross-sectional area of the ceramic block is from 40,000 mm2 to 55,000 mm2.</p> |
