PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition for an optically anisotropic layer, which can lower heating temperature in a heating alignment step without causing the alignment defect and dirt defect of the composition for the optically anisotropic layer caused by the volatilization of an additive.

SOLUTION: In the composition for the optically anisotropic layer including a liquid crystalline compound and at least one additive decreasing a liquid-liquid crystal phase transition temperature, the additive has ≤20 mass% volatilization amount at the liquid-liquid crystal phase transition temperature when 20 mass% additive is contained based on the composition for the optically anisotropic layer.
