PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp having a break-proof glass bulb, and to provide a manufacturing method therefor. SOLUTION: The discharge lamp comprises: the glass bulb 1; a solder layer 31 formed at the end of the glass bulb 1; and a metal body 32 covering the end of the glass bulb 1 to be electrically conductive to the solder layer 31. A non-contact layer 4 is provided between the end of the metal body 32 and the glass bulb 1. Preferably, the length L of the non-contact layer 4 satisfies the relation: L≥1.0 mm.
