PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanical needle position detection apparatus using lever operation in which a gear attached with a needle rotates in the first direction to operate a lever to detect the position of the needle and the lever does not prevent the rotation of the gear when the gear rotates in the second direction. SOLUTION: When the gear 1 rotates in the second direction where the position of the needle is not detected, the lever 2 is pushed by a detection section 1a disposed in the gear 1. Thus, the lever 2 moves along the shape of a long hole section 2a with respect to a rotation shaft 5, and is moved to a position that does not disturb the rotation of the gear 1, thereby rotating the gear 1 in the second direction.
