<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To resolve a problem in a conventional diagnostic assay method wherein it was temporarily and generally considered that procalcitonin formed in the case of sepsis is the same as a calcitonin precursor, and in consequence, it is a peptide (procalcitonin 1-116) having a procalcitonin array of known 116 amino acid since a difference between know procalcitonin as a calcitonin precursor and procalcitonin formed in the case of sepsis was not explained. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Recombinant procalcitonin 3-116 is used in diagnosis and therapy of a sepsis disease, measurement of prohormones other than procalcitonin and dipeptidyl peptidase IV, and as a biomarker in diagnosis of sepsis.
